The Kilimanjaro Mountain, located in the northern circuit on Tanzania is the highest mountain in Africa and at it’s the largest free standing mountain in the world standing at an elevation of 5,895 meters. This dormant volcano mountain is composed of three (3) distinct volcanic cones named Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira in which the Uhuru peak is its highest summit on Kibo’s crater rim.
On vegetation, from the lowest to the highest point, this mountain is divided into five (5) main zones being Low slopes zone, Montane forest zone, Heath and moorland zone, Alpine desert zone and Summit zone. Largely, the whole mountain including the Montane forest zone belt is very rich in flora and fauna species, many of them being endangered.
