Iringa town is perched at cool 1600m on a cliff overlooking the valley of little Ruaha River Iringa was initially built up by Germans at a turn of the turn of the country as bastion against the local Hehe people. Now it’s a district capital, an important agricultural Centre and the getaway for visiting Ruaha National park. The accommodation in the park varies from budget to luxury camps and lodges but we also provide tents for camping activities. Here you can see the park through a custom, open roof, 4WD land cruiser. Plus take a walking safari along the great Ruaha River or hike to the famous Kimilamatonge hill for 3-4 hours

Gangilonga rock
Gangilonga Rock, ‘Hehe’ word for ‘the talking stone’ Here you will enjoy a view of Iringa town and nearby streets and map location of the city Centre. Is where Chief Mkwawa meditated and learned that the Germans were after him and it is as well where the chief's scouts communicated the movement of German troops from, not forgetting its cultural & spiritual significance to the Hehe society.
Igeleke rock painting
The rock paintings in Igeleke Hills give an orientation on GPS’s African technology and Hehe beliefs from 40,000 years ago to the present. The ochre drawings depict human figures, animals, and other staff in a style similar to the Kondoa Irangi rock paintings and will add to your experience of the area.
Isimila stone age site& Earth pillars
Isimila Stone Age Site is pre-historic settlement, where you will hear the origin of Homo erectus between 300,000 and 400,000 years ago B.C. Hammer stones, axe heads, flints and scrapers are among a few tools that completes a collection of the stone age tools found around the area.
The site also is decorated with Earth Pillars, displaying a dramatic landscape of eroded sandstone pillars one of the most significant Stone Age finds ever identified witnessing the work of erosion done for years.
Chief Mkwawa memorial museum
Take a short drive from Iringa town to Kalenga Museum, where you will learn about the origin and relationships between the Hehe people and other foreigners since the 1980’s, not only from the past but also today and in the future. Here you will travel back in time to the 18th century by listening to the history and mystery of the chiefdom system and the German presence in Tanzania during colonial times.
